ANNKA KULTYS GALLERY presents La Potion (EH) (2023), a single-channel video by Bordeaux-born, Marseille-based artist Sara Sadik—marking her first solo exhibition in London and debut with the gallery.
In La Potion (EH), Sadik invites viewers into a poetic, game-like world where the protagonist—an anxious avatar mirroring the narrator—sets off on a journey of emotional healing. “We will seek happiness since it does not come to us,” he says, as he wanders through imagined gardens, swims beneath waves, and searches the stars for solace. A tender reflection on transformation and inner strength, the work becomes a digital ritual—a potion for healing.
Sadik’s practice blends video art and gaming aesthetics to explore the psychological lives of Maghrebi youth in France, especially second-generation immigrants. Drawing from her Marseille community, she creates speculative worlds where her protagonists are no longer defined by social marginalisation, but recast as heroes. Her work softens the boundaries between reality and fantasy, forging space for emotional expression and resistance.
Part of a new generation of artists redefining moving image, Sadik uses time-based media to create immersive, emotionally charged narratives. La Potion (EH) continues her exploration of masculinity, vulnerability, and belonging through digital mythmaking.
